 Julia and Woody Quelch

Julia Mewes: Practice Principal / Veterinary Surgeon
Qualifications: VetMB, MA, CertVR, LVI, GPCert(SAM), MRCVS
Areas of Interest: Julia qualified in 1989 from Cambridge University and has practiced her entire career in Mid Sussex. In 1996 she conceived the idea for a very special clinic, and opened the doors here offering longer appointments and personal attention. Julia has a special Certificate in Veterinary Radiology and particularly enjoys diagnostic work and soft tissue surgery. In October 2011 she was awarded the 'General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Medicine'.  This represents a higher tier of qualification for veterinary surgeons in General Practice.  As the Practice owner, she also takes responsibility for all the staff management / training and business issues.

At home, Julia's hobby is voluntary radio broadcasting with Mid-Downs Radio for the patients of the Princess Royal Hospital. Her show is on station 1350AM from 2-4pm on Tuesdays if you'd like to tune in! She also looks after her son, John, and her dog Jasmine.

Angie Gill: Veterinary Surgeon with Josh 
Qualifications: Med.Vet, LVI, MRCVS
Areas of Interest: Angie qualified in Germany as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1988 and has been working in the UK in small animal practice ever since. Angie enjoys the variety of different cases we see with a more recent interest in geriatric medicine and acupuncture. She is married with a grown up daughter and has a lurcher cross called Josh and a 'stroppy' mare called Tia!

Angie enjoys walking and riding in the countryside, as well as interior design, psychology and gardening.

 Jean

Jean Dyas: Veterinary Surgeon
Qualifications: BVSc, GPCert (FelP), LVI, MRCVS
Areas of Interest: Jean has worked at The Mewes since 2007. She has a GP certificate in feline practice and although she loves all animals, she is definitely a 'cat person'! Her areas of interest are soft tissue surgery and feline medicine. Jean is passionate about foreign travel and takes every opportunity to explore new places.

She is an avid gardener and spends a lot of her free time pottering about in her garden with her cats, Flora, Morris and Harley.

Jane Maccabee: Veterinary Surgeon
Qualifications: BVetMed, CertSAO, MRCVS
Areas of Interest: Jane joined us in 2013, and is not only a GP vet, but also an orthopaedic surgeon, who worked with top referral hospitals before joining us. jane works at The Mewes between two and five days a week, but is usually available for accident and emergency cases.

Nikki

Nikki Etherton: Practice Manager / Senior Nurse with Dottie
Areas of Interest: Nikki has worked at The Mewes since the very first day on the 10th of June 1996! She deals with the general day to day running of the clinic as well as doing nursing appointments. She has a keen interest in canine behaviour.

Outside of work Nikki enjoys spending time with her husband and son, Robert, her horse Humphrey, her two cats, Betsy & Marylin, and Dottie the dog (pictured left with Nikki).

 Profile Laura

Laura Smith: Head Veterinary Nurse
Qualifications: Registered Veterinary Nurse, Pet Health Councillor, ND Animal Care, NC Practical Habitat Management
Areas of Interest: Laura began working at The Mewes in 2006. She achieved her VN qualification in the same year and became Head Nurse in 2008. She has also trained as a pet health councellor and set up weight clinics here. Laura has a keen interest in both surgical and medical nursing including rabbit health, rehabilitation and nutrition.

Her two cats Brian & Finnigan live with her parents and her other cats, Mowdy, Worthington and Olive, live with her, as well as her two bearded dragons. Laura enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, horse riding and camping.

Anna Waldman: Head Receptionist / Principals PA / Senior Nurse 
Qualifications: Certificate in Companion Animal Behaviour
Areas of Interest: Anna has been working at the Mewes since 1999, but she has worked in Veterinary Surgeries generally since 1970. She used to work as part of the nursing team and now prefers reception duties, however, she recently worked towards and achieved her Certificate in Companion Animal Behaviour and holds puppy socialisation classes here, which are great fun and a fantastic opportunity to get your puppy off to the right start.

Anna is married with 2 grown children and a proud Grandmother to Henry and Charlie.

Profile India

India Brooker: Veterinary Nurse
Qualifications: Registered Veterinary Nurse; Cert II in Animal Studies; Veterinary Nutritional Advocate
Areas of Interest:
India began working at The Mewes in July 2012. She gained her VN qualification in Sydney, Australia in 2009.
India has a keen interest on the impact of obesity on today’s pets and has trained to become a Veterinary Nutritional Advocate. She also has a keen interest in Emergency and Critical Care nursing.

In early 2012 India and her husband moved to the UK from Australia with their three children – Niila, a rather odd looking Australian Cattle Dog cross (pictured with India); Ty, a monstrous three-legged rescue cat; and Loti, a sweet gentle rescue cat!
India is greatly looking forward to introducing them all to the joys of snow!

Denise Scutt: Veterinary Nurse 
Qualifications: Registered Veterinary Nurse
Areas of Interest: Denise joined the Mewes in July 2011 as a trainee Veterinary Nurse. She began her Veterinary Nursing at the College of Animal Welfare in Huntingdon, Cambridge in September 2010 and came to us to complete her training. She became a full-time member of our team in September 2012 and achieved her VN qualification later that month.

At home Denise has a Bengal cat called Bagheera, who loves playing in water. She also has many pets back at her parents small holding in West Chiltington.

Outside of work she is part of a car racing team called BS, racing for the MSV trackday trophy series. Her other interests include, kickboxing, yoga and countryside walks.

 Sarah

Sarah Lucas: Senior veterinary Nurse 
Qualifications: National Diploma in Animal Management
Areas of Interest: Sarah has been working at The Mewes since 2004 when she started as a work experience student. In September 2009, she began her NVQ Veterinary Nusring course at Plumpton College and hopes to achieve her VN qualification in Summer 2013. Sarah has proved her competence within our nursing team and was promoted to senior nurse in August 2011. At work,, Sarah's special interests are in-patient care, medical nursing and learning about anaesthesia. 

At home she has a cat 'Flossy' (pictured with Sarah) who loves to sleep ALL day! Sarah's activities out of work include keeping fit, swimming, socialising with friends and shopping!

Sarah Burns: Student Veterinary Nurse
Areas of Interest: Sarah has been working at the Mewes since June 2011 and begins her Veterinary Nursing course at Plumpton College in September 2011. Sarah has lots of previous experience of working with animals; she has been working for a cat's charity for the last four years and trains gundogs as a hobby! 

Sarah has a rabbit called Marley (seen left with Sarah) who both live with her parents at the moment. Sarah also has a cat called Megan. Sarah's activities out of work include dog training, socialising with friends and going to the cinema.

 Profile Harriet

Harriet Deering: Student Veterinary Nurse
Areas of Interest: Harriet is studying at the Royal Veterinary College as a foundation degree student and is currently in her 3rd year. Harriet takes a keen interest in emergency and critical care nursing.

Harriet has two English Setters at home, Tilly and her daughter Breeze, and also a cat called Snooker. She enjoys showjumping, sailing and mountain biking when she is not working or studying.

 

 

 Profile Shannon

Shannon Desmond: Student Veterinary Nurse
Areas of Interest: Shannon is studying at Plumpton College as a foundation degree student and is currently in her 2nd year. She has a keen interest in anatomy and physiology and inpatient nursing care. 

Sarah has a rabbit called Marley (seen left with Sarah B) who both live with her parents at the moment. Sarah also has a cat called Megan. Sarah's activities out of work include dog training, socialising with friends and going to the cinema.

Shannon bakes and decorates amazing tea cakes and plays netball when taking a break from work and her studies.

 

Alice Cooke: Receptionist/Marketing Coordinator
Areas of Interest: Alice joined the Mewes in January 2013. She is also a journalist, and the Assistant Editor of Sussex Life magazine. She has a Blue Peter badge, please ask her about it when you come to reception, and she will be delighted to tell you the story. (At length).

Alice has a home-bred horse named Gigi, who she hopes to compete this year. When not riding she is to be found socialising or catching up on sleep, which she is deprived of, thanks to Gigi.
